Image to SVG trace
Trace a logo, stamp, or silhouette into closed paths you can cut or score. It is a contour tracer in the spirit of potrace: a bitmap becomes vectors, then the vectors are scaled to the millimeter width you set. Paths stay polylines so the size does not drift.
Exports SVG. See also Photo to laser engraving, Vector QR code, Finger-joint box.
Higher removes small steps from the outline.
Drop a logo or silhouette.
High-contrast artwork traces cleaner than a photograph. The file never leaves this browser.
Tracing uses at most 1000 pixels on the long side, then scales to your millimeter width.
Red paths cut. Blue paths score. Black paths engrave. Import at 100% scale.
How to use it
- Start with a high-contrast image. A clean black shape on white traces better than a photograph.
- Move the threshold until the shape is complete and the specks are gone. Invert if the background was the dark part.
- Raise Simplify to drop tiny steps, and raise the minimum area to throw away dust.
- Set the output width in millimeters. Height follows the traced image.
- Import at 100%. Red paths are cuts. Set the layer to score if you only want a line.

Questions
Is this potrace?
It traces bitmap contours the way potrace does, then simplifies them. The output is polylines rather than the cubic curves potrace fits, which keeps a cut path predictable.
Can it centerline a signature?
It outlines filled shapes. A signature works when the strokes are solid filled marks. A one-pixel sketch will outline both sides of each stroke.
Why are there so many paths?
Every separate black region and every hole becomes a path. Increase the minimum area, or clean the image before tracing.
