Material power and speed test grid
Lay out a grid of power and speed with a patch to engrave in every cell. You set the rows, the columns, the ranges, and the words on the axes. The file is geometry only — it does not change settings on the laser. You assign each cell’s power and speed in your own software, using the labels as the map.
Exports SVG. See also Kerf test and calculator, Photo to laser engraving, Laser DPI and LPI converter.
25 cells on a 120 × 100 mm sheet.
Run this on scrap. Start low, and never laser PVC or vinyl.
Red paths cut. Blue paths score. Black paths engrave. Import at 100% scale.
How to use it
- Pick a cell size large enough to read, usually 15–25 mm.
- Set columns to the power range you want to try, and rows to the speed range. The numbers are labels in whatever units your machine uses.
- Import the SVG. Black filled squares are the engraving layer. Blue lines are the grid. The red border is an optional cut.
- Give each cell the power and speed printed on it, then run the job on scrap.
- Keep the card with the material. The winning cell is your starting preset.

Questions
Does this set the laser power for me?
No. EngraveKit cannot talk to a machine. The labels tell you which settings to assign in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, or your controller.
What units should I use?
Whatever your software shows. Percent and millimeters per second are common. The grid prints the numbers and does not convert them.
How many cells is too many?
Twenty by twenty is the limit. A 5×5 or 6×6 card is usually enough to find a range worth refining.
